I should be inside painting...

Even though it’s cold and cloudy today, I prefer walking around Wildflower Lake to doing laps on an indoor track!  In my defense, while walking around the lake, I was thinking about what more I could do on the painting sitting on my easel

                    

The Blue Door

In 2009 I took my husband on a tour of Croatia to celebrate his 75th birthday.  At that time, I was still using a "real" camera.  (A few years later, I purchased an iPhone - tossed my digital camera, and never looked back!)  

I remember taking architecture photos - we were on a walking tour - I took pictures of the architecture of every bit that "fit" my criteria!  I'm not exactly sure where we were, but I know I took this photo somewhere in Croatia!

I've wanted to paint this particular scene for quite some time.  I tend to not want to buy new supplies but make do with what I have.  Thus, a rectangular photo had to be drawn on a square canvas. The challenge begins!

Playing Catch Up...

I can hardly believe I haven't posted since August - where has the time gone?!  My husband is now home from the hospital and rehab.  Slowly but surely I have found my way back to my studio, but haven't blogged about my progress.

I've been working on small projects - something I can do when I have a few minutes to spare.

Mixed Media Layers - Part 2

Picking  up where I left off yesterday - adding more layers to the journal spread.

rubber stamps and black acrylic paint

finger paint around stamping (white, blue, red acrylic paint)

doodle around stamping with markers and gel pens

finish with more stamping and script

Toning down the busy background makes for a more cohesive piece IMO.  If all the previous layers hadn't been there the finished spread would not have so much depth.

Art on Canvas

My dear friend, Betty, treated me to lunch to celebrate my birthday.  We strolled through Third Street to see the plein air painting going on - a two day charity event with an auction over the weekend.

Talented artists, local color, fountains, flowers and birds - what's not to love!

Many decorative fountains can be found in the area

Note the little bird on top of the cherub's head - so cute
