Love is in the air...

This week's Texture Tuesday challenge is to combine any photo with one of Kim's textures.  The theme is love.

One of my all time favorite pictures - my husband's first Holy Communion.  His mom got mad at him because he went out to play before Mass and, of course, got his new white suit all dirty!  (This is more readily seen on the original photo.)  He looks so angelic here, don't you think?  He is the sweetest man I know.

Now What's She Up To...continued

I admit, every once in a while I buy a Lotto, Powerball or MegaMoney ticket.   I'm always a winner the night before the drawing - imagining how I will play Lady Bountiful with my loot.  Alas, with the exception of a free ticket now and then, I have never won any big money.  I'm the biggest loser ever!  Since I rarely throw anything away, I decided to make something out of my losing tickets.

I have a wonderful dress form that I make outfits for.  I call her "my girl" and she resides in my living room.  Here she is wearing the "Biggest Loser" bustier.   I love her!

I have a collection of Scrabble tiles.  I made tabs spelling out MEGAMONEY - LOTTO - POWERBALL which hang from the bustier.

Maybe I'm not such a big loser afterall...

Come back and visit me next week.  I'll have something more to complete her ensemble.

Anything Goes

This week's Texture Tuesday challenge is to combine one of Kim's textures with any photo.  I took this photo in the beautiful walled city of Dubrovnic in Croatia.  There is no vehicle traffic in the old city.  The are steep stairways that lead up several levels of streets encircling the city and ultimately to the walkway around the perimeter of the city.  The views are breathtaking - it overlooks the sea.

This was a lucky photo.  My husband and I walked up a few levels and stopped to look around.  A young woman and her boyfriend stopped at the top of the stairs to have a smoke.  I just aimed my camera and took a photo.   I had no idea of what I had captured until later.

I added Kim's "Cool Grunge" texture.  The frame is from Coffee Shop blog.

It's What I Do....

The Texture Tuesday challenge this week is the interpretation of the verb "do" and one of Kim's fabulous textures.

Crackerjack Texture

The Texture Tuesday challenge this week is to use Kim Klassen's new texture "Crackerjack" with any photo.  I took this photo while on vacation in France a few years ago.  It's one of my favorites.

Doin' the Mashed Potato

I know it sounds crazy - but I used mashed potatoes as a paint resist on fabric.

finished result

Muslin pinned tightly to padded board.  I bought the cheapest grocery store brand of dry instant mashed potatoes.  Mixed 3/4 to 1 cup of the dry potato flakes with about 2 cups of hot water.  (The mixture should be the consistency of  pudding.)

Potato mixture spread over top.  The hard part is waiting for this to dry!  I waited overnight.  When the mixture is dry, it cracks - this is a good thing.

Fabric paints brushed over dry potato mixture.  Let paint dry then rinse fabric with warm water to remove potato mixture.

This was my first attempt using mashed potato resist.  I need to think about whether the results were worth the effort.  What do you think?
