I Meant to Put Flowers in Her Hair...

I meant to paint flowers in her hair but then decided not to

Solitude...

Lightning, thunder, rain, and gloomy skies today.  Perfect time to work in the studio and finish a painting I started yesterday.

Finished work - oils on 20x20 gallery-wrapped canvas

Quick pencil sketch over an acrylic-painted background

Oil painting using a limited palette

Rather than using a rag, wipe the excess oil paint onto the background

Lightened up the background by brushing over the wet paint with Gamsol and little white oil paint

Orchids in the Garden

Rather than paint from a photograph, I chose to paint from memory the orchids I saw on display during my recent visit to the Naples Botanical Gardens.   It's doubtful a botanist would recognize these as orchids, but that's how I remember it!

A Girl With No Name

I am experimenting with new (to me) painting supplies.  Centurion primed linen 11x14 sheets by Creative Mark.  Smudger brushes, Liquin Olepasto.  This piece was inspired by Pamela Blaeis (Let's Face It 2023).

I taped the linen to hardboard - accounting for mat, the painting is 9x12 - oil on primed canvas.

Abstract Forest

I've been working on this piece off and on - mostly off! I decided to go in the direction of abstraction.

Sunset Landscape

I tried my hand at painting the sunset landscape I took a photo of at Corkscrew Sanctuary last week.

It needs work, but I have to step away from it for a while.  I might put a wash of a medium color over the top to tone it all down - but I need to wait for what I’ve done so far to dry.

Cape Romano at Sunset

If you've never heard of the dome houses, check this out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cape_Romano_Dome_House

I've always wanted to paint them...

24x36 canvas - oil paints
charcoal sketch, blocking in sky

working on water - many, many layers!

Adding the darks made all the difference!

True Blue Friends...

Working with limited color palette (cad red, ultramarine, yellow ochre, white and lamp black).  Challenging myself to mix my own colors.

What I did...

added more details

My sketch was way off as far as the size of their heads - changed that easily enough with more paint.

I always paint the hair last - it makes me so nervous!
