Dollar Store Travel Journal

My husband and I are planning a trip to Nova Scotia.  I am very excited about this trip.

I always make a travel journal to keep track of our adventure and also to have a place to store all the bits and pieces of memorabilia found along the way.

This journal was made very inexpensively with materials purchased at the local Dollar Store as well as incorporating this and that from my stash.

Materials used: card board, scrapbook paper, children's books, manila folders, sketch paper and cording.

In Photoshop Elements, I made a collage of some of the places we plan to visit.

Children's book pages separated coated with gesso, enhanced with water soluble oil sticks.
Manila folders cut to size
Cardboard covers with scrapbook papers
Holes punched with Cinch machine

The scrapbook paper on the inside covers has a label for Nova Scotia - how lucky is that!

Clip art lighthouses printed on each Manila folder page; travel dates written on tabs.  I plan to write notes, draw sketches, etc. on the painted children's book pages - one for each travel day.
My friend, Stephanie Coburn, gave me a delightful little travel journal she picked up from a hotel in Lake Como, Italy.  It had suggestions of things to write in a journal.  I made up my own pages using a few of these ideas and inserted them in my journal - thanks Stephanie!

Back cover - I love this paper!  I know we will be enjoying plenty of seafood on this trip.

I plan to blog my way through Nova Scotia and hope you will tag along.

Love it! I've done stuff with children's books, but never thought to pull the pages apart ... great idea. And I think I might need a Cinch ... or at least want one really, really badly ... have fun!

You are one creative woman, Pat! Loved getting a little peek at your workspace - lucky you!

My brother and sister-in-law are travelling through Nova Scotia this month before they stop in for a visit with us in Montreal - before they head back to Vancouver. Bet you'll cross paths!! :)

Thanks for sharing your work and ideas with Photo Art Friday.
