Not ready to give up...yet

I kept painting away hoping this would turn into a masterpiece - NOT!!  I do like it a lot better than what I ended up with yesterday.  The proportions are off - one head too large - the other smaller than it should be.   (I just realized how sad they look - must be the way I'm feeling showing through.) There are things I like about it too...which I NEED to remember.

My motto is "success is in the effort".  I tried and know eventually my oil painting skills will improve.

Are we having fun yet....NO!

I thought it would be fun to try painting with oils.  I have several artist friends who use oils so beautifully - they made it seem like it would be fun and easy - NOT!

I had no idea how different oils are from acrylics.  I haven't gotten the hang of mixing paints or applying same to the canvas - so frustrating!

I used acrylics on the background  - not so sure this was a good idea though.  I waited until the acrylic paint was totally dry, but correcting "mistakes" on the foreground is really hard to do now.

I used charcoal pencil to draw rough figures - used my oil paints to add underpainting to my drawing.  I'm having a hard time with the paint always being wet - I feel like I'm just making a big mess trying to blend the paints - details are scaring me - I've completely painted over the faces twice because I was really unhappy with how they were turning out.  I know it's my first try with oils - but already I'm thinking about throwing them out!  BAHHHH!!!
