Savannah's Southern Charm

Another perfect day.  The people here are friendly and hospitable.  Everyone we saw said "good morning" or "hi y'all."

We met Savannah Dan at 10AM.  He's a wonderful tour guide with a great sense of humor.  He had tons of stories to tell and knew his history.  The walking tour took about 2 hours.
Savannah is very tourist friendly.  DOT (Dept. of Transportation) offers free shuttle bus, ferry and streetcar rides.  We rode the shuttle bus yesterday; the ferry this afternoon.  Tomorrow we'll hunt down the street car.
This glorious fountain is situated in Forsyth Park.  The park began in the 1840s when 10 acres of land was donated for public use by William Hodson.  Governor John Forsyth expanded the park to 30 acres.  In 1851, the fountain was built in Forsyth's honor.
The Candler Oak is a live oak tree and is thought to be one of the oldest landmarks in the area.  It is about 300 years old.
We walked a lot of miles today and rewarded ourselves with chocolate shakes.  Leopold's Ice Cream is really, really, really good!  (Ask Dan - he recommended the place!)
The shake is so big it didn't fit into one glass!

Savannah Sights...

Savannah is a glorious place to visit. We're staying in the historic downtown area in a hotel steps from the river.

The weather has been perfect for walking about and taking in the local color.  This morning we will take a walking tour with the infamous Savannah Dan.

Right behind our hotel is Ellis Square, one of the many pedestrian squares.

Flower Child Van

This fantastic 60's van was parked in the alley next door to our hotel last night and was still there this morning.  I couldn't resist taking a photo.  It even had tattered floral curtains in the windows.  I'm not sure what the smell of smoke emanating from the van was...ha!

Rural Routes

I love old mail boxes.  I found these on my way to Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.

Song Bird

So many of my blog friends take photos of birds.  I thought I'd give it a try too.

I created a little musical brush using a music font.

Junk Mail

If I had a nickel for every piece of junk mail that is delivered to my home on a daily basis, I'd be rich!

My husband and I are lucky enough to be in the position to donate money to various charities.  It really bugs me though when we get pleas for more from these same charities several times a month.  (Makes one wonder where the money is really going - for good or postage!)  Don't even get me started on the political mailings - egad!

Does anyone really read this stuff?

See You Later Alligator...

Early Saturday morning, I drove out to Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary.  It was quiet and cool - a recipe for a grand morning to take photos.

Just inches off the boardwalk, this alligator was enjoying a morning snooze.  It measured approximately 4 to 5 feet in length.

Doll Face....

I have been invited to show my art dolls at Marco Island Gallery.  As a result, I have been busy, busy creating some new work.

These girls are far from finished...

Splash!

If I told you how many hours I spent and shots I took trying to capture a water drop, you would laugh.  This was very difficult (for me) to do...trying to manually focus the camera, setting up a container to drip water, etc.

First I set up in the kitchen, but that did not work.  I finally resorted to taking everything outdoors.  (Water dripped into a dark blue bowl.)

This is not exactly the shot I hoped for (the focus is a bit "off"), but for the time being it will do.

Rainy Skies

We've had nothing but rain, rain, rain for what seems like the entire summer.  Luckily, no hurricanes - that's a good thing.

The skies filled rain clouds over the gulf are quite dramatic.  (I skeedaddle home at the first sight of lightning.)

A photo of raindrops on my car window was layered over top of my original photo taken on the Naples beach.

Handsome...

Portrait shot taken at Still Motion Studio.  This young man is a natural!  He was a joy to work with and very easy on the eyes!
