One Last Look...

We started the day downtown looking for Rainbow Row.  We'd heard about it and actually walked passed it yesterday without realizing it.  Rainbow Row is the name for a series of 13 colorful historic houses on East Bay Street.  According to some tales, the houses were painted in the various colors such that drunken sailors coming in from port could remember which houses there were to bunk in.
 

There are many shrimp boats in Shem Creek - just outside Charleston.  We found a large number of plein air painters there getting ready for an exhibit which opens on Friday - too bad we'll be gone by then.  It was really interesting seeing the different perspectives these artists had for the same scene.

This is the Angel Oak tree.  It is magnificent!  65 feet high; 25.5 feet circumference; 17,000 sq. feet of shade; largest limb has a circumference of 11.25 feet and length of 89 feet.  It is estimated to be between 300 and 400 years old.

Richard is so lucky.  He can eat sweets every day and not gain an ounce  I wish I could say the same for moi!!!!

    Great post, and looks like quite a lovely place to visit. I have never been there before. That is quite an amazing tree isn't it? Reminds me almost of a huge tree in Lahaina Maui. safe travels to you!

    What a beautiful place. I haven't been there but when my mother visited years ago she said it was splendid...i wish i was a bit like your Richard also.

    What a city! I've never been to Charleston but now would love to visit. Rainbow Row would be my first stop, followed by wherever your husband got that luscious cup of ice cream :)

    What a wonderful holiday you have had! I do love Rainbow Row. I hadn't heard that story but I hope it is true! And the painters are terrific. Oh, I'd love to be at that show! I guess what I have to do is get ready for my own and buy from my fellow vendors! That'll help my shopping urge. But outdoors where it is warm would be ever so much better!

    Such pretty photos. Our leaves have mostly all fallen and the flowers are gone for the year. Nice to see these colorful photos!

    I am so glad you enjoyed your time in Charleston. I don't think I have ever heard anyone say they didn't like that town...I sure wish I was going to be there Friday for the art show....I bet that's lots of fun...

    Rainbow Row reminds me of the beach houses in Capitola, CA. If you are ever out this way, you should see them. Pretty.
