Fuel Free Recreation

This photo was taken from a kayak on one of the inner coastal canals in Naples, FL.  It was great fun, but I admit we were exhausted after 3 hours paddling in the hot sun.

I used Kim Klassen's "Simplicity" texture (multiply at 60%) over top and a frame from  Digital Scrapper.

Using this photo as inspiration, I made a small quilt (18x22) using my felting machine and sewing machine.  It needed a little something - I added an egret which I created using free motion machine embroidery.

  19. I'm jealous that you can practically kayak whenever you want. I get out on the water as much as possible but as we live in Michigan I lose a good half of the year to the weather!! Beautiful photo and quilt too, the egret is the perfect touch.

  29. Although I sew, I have never tackled anything like that embroidery/collage. It is amazing. I was looking at the stitching in close up - do you use the walking foot on your machine or is there a special attachment? It's a wonderful effect. whatever, the water is particularly good :)

  37. Hot sun???
    It's only just gone January.
You are so clever with your needle art. Can't begin to comprehend how you do all that. Love the egret. This is the reverse [in an obscure sort of way] of people killing egrets to decorate their garments and hats with their feathers. Just as well that is outlawed these days.

  42. Wow, Pat! You are adventuresome and inspiring! I did not know there was such a thing as a felt machine. How neat that would be! This weekend there is a big sewing expo in Denver but with 2 feet of snow, I don't think I'm going to get to go. love the creativity that you see!
