Spring Time and the Might Oak

I finished this piece with oil paints. It was a challenge to create the illusion of budding leaves.   Mixing only Cadmium Yellow Lemon and Lamp Black, I made three shades of yellow/green.  I'm satisfied with the end result.  20x20 oil paint on stretched canvas.

The Mighty Oak

I found out this was an oak tree - I asked one of my neighbors.

I decided to roughly draw the trunk and branches quickly with a watercolor pencil.  I may add some more trees in the background or just "bulk" up the tree, and elongate the branches - decisions, decisions... Then I will continue with oil paints once this dries.

Will Spring Ever Come?!

Moving to Illinois from Florida at the tail end of winter may have been poor timing on my part.  I am always cold.  The sun plays hide and seek.  The WIND is beastly!

I love the lines of this barren tree. I admire it everytime I pass it by.   I have no idea what kind of tree it is.  I'll have to ask my neighbors.

I decided to just paint my "own" spring.
acrylic paint over gesso

I will do my best with the tree...to be continued.

What if - Part 2

This piece turned out to be a lot of messy fun!   Acrylics on stretched 20x20 canvas

 WHAT IF...

What if...

What if I mixed gel medium with acrylic paint(s) and applied it to the canvas with the back of a plastic spoon...flowers perhaps?  This will require more experimentation.

I should be inside painting...

Even though it’s cold and cloudy today, I prefer walking around Wildflower Lake to doing laps on an indoor track!  In my defense, while walking around the lake, I was thinking about what more I could do on the painting sitting on my easel
